 Saturday 5th September 2020.

We are delighted to announce our new Playwriting Competition for 2020, which is open to playwrights across the UK.

 

Five finalist plays will be chosen to be performed at the Daneside Theatre, Congleton, Cheshire on Saturday 5th September, where the winning play, voted by the audience, will receive a prize of £150.

Rules of Entry:

  • The competition is open to entries from UK residents only.

  • The competition is open to any age.

  • Plays must be unpublished and NOT have been performed before.

  • Plays must be written for the stage with a running time of no more than 20 minutes.

  • Please do not use unnecessary excessive language.

  • By entering the competition, the writer confirms their entry is original, their own work and they have the sole rights to all content in context of the play.

  • The author's name and contact details must be removed from all pages of the script and pages must be numbered.

  • The first page of each script should include a completed synopsis of no more than 50 words, a list of characters and description of the setting.

  • Entry to Phoenix Writes is £10. This is non-refundable and can be paid by bank transfer or the Phoenix online store by the closing date. Any payment not received by the closing date will result in disqualification of the play.

  • Phoenix Theatre Company does not accept responsibility for the loss of scripts.

  • The judges' decision is final.

  • The shortlist and finalists will be displayed on our website and social media pages once the judging process has been completed. 

  • Submissions that do not comply with competition rules will be read in their entirety but may be discounted from the competition without notification to the writer or refund of entry fee.

  • Your submission of a play to this competition automatically grants the Phoenix Theatre Company and the Daneside Theatre free none exclusive performing rights to perform the play on Saturday 5th September 2020 and at any time in the future.

  • Ownership of the play resides with the playwright.

  • The closing date for all entries if 31st March 2020 and shortlisted finalists will be announced in June 2020.

  • Finalist authors will each receive a pair of tickets for the performance.
